Coming to an end...

With the 2014-2015 school year coming to an end, I just wanted to take a moment to wish all the families at Robert Browning a wonderful summer.

To my Grade 5 students, I wish you all the best in middle school! Remember to always do your best and good things will come your way. Please come back and visit, I'll miss you!

Welcome Back!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Spring Break. 

I am happy to report that I am back for one final week! 

Friday, April 10th will be my last day. 

I am pleased to welcome Mme Barb Trawon who will be replacing me while on mat-leave. Please give her a warm welcome.

I have truly enjoyed getting to know all the students this year 

and I look forward to coming back near the end of 

next school year to continue where I left off.

MUSIC UPDATE

A lot has been happening in the Music room since my last post. 

Kindergarten: Students have learned how to identify a simple rhythmic pattern using a ta, titi and shh.  They have also explored how to create these rhythms on different instruments. 

Grade 1: Students have continued to explore simple rhythmic patterns and can identify them visually or through listening activities. They have also continued to explore our "Solfège" Family and are looking forward to meeting a new member really soon. 

Grade 2: Students are exploring a unit called "Carnival of Animals". All pieces are written by Camille Saint-Saëns, a famous French composer. Each piece is written for a particular animal in mind. The students have had fun guessing which animal belongs to each piece. 

Grade 3/4/5: Students are progressing nicely on their recorders through our Recorder Karate program. Students are also working on a unit called "STOMP". In groups, they are making their own "STOMP" creations which we will be filming this month. 

CHOIR: Congratulations to all choirs members this year. You have all worked extremely hard and it shows when you are performing on stage. 

Congratulations to the Grade 5 choir, who recently sang at the Winnipeg Music Festival and received a Silver for their work. 

Best of luck to the Grade 3/4 choir, who will be performing, Tuesday, March 10th. 

Music Celebration

Don't forget that next Wednesday, February 11th, both choirs will be performing as part of the Divisional Music Celebration Week. 

Where: Sturgeon Creek United Church
Time:    3/4 choir: Please arrive at 5:00pm and we sing at 5:30pm. 
             Grade 5 choir: Please arrive at 5:40pm and we sing at 6:10pm. 
Why: To help prepare us for our performance in the Winnipeg Music Festival in March.

Monday January 26th, students from Grades 3, 4 & 5 had the opportunity to watch the Divisional Musical Theatre production of Peter Pan Junior. The show was great and truly displayed all the amazing talent in our school division. 

A BIG congratulations goes out to our 5 École Robert Browning 

students who participated along with 9 of our former students.

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break with their family and friends.  Here's quick look at what's going on in the music room over the month of January. 

Kindergarten: We will begin exploring note values such as "ta, ti-ti, and shh". Students will learn how to identify them aurally and written. 

Grade 1: Students will have the opportunity to explore different instruments this month and create musical soundscapes.

Grade 2: We will focus on improvising and also continue learning about the Orchestra. 

Grade 3, 4 & 5: We will be very busy learning 2 new pieces of music that we will be singing at the Winnipeg Music Festival later on this year. We will also continue with Recorder Karate. 

Boomwhacker Clubs: The Grade 5 students are invited to participate in our weekly Boomwhacker Clubs where we are learning popular tunes such as "Pink Panther" and "Star Wars". 
Boys meet Tuesday from 12:25-1:05pm and Girls meet Wednesday from 12:25-1:05pm. 

Kindergarten Fun!

Kindergarten students have been having a lot of fun exploring the sounds of different instruments. They have also been practicing simple rhythmic patterns through echoing exercises.

Winter Concert

Our Winter Concert is fast approaching and 

the students have been busy learning their songs. 

This year, the show is called "Love is all you need!"

New instruments, songs and games!

Kindergarten students have been busy exploring the different instruments in the music room and learning the proper techniques for playing them. 

Grade 1 students have been playing a circle game that involves keeping the beat and layering in instruments where appropriate. 

Grade 2 students have been learning about a new note called "blanche/half note". We have been working on being able to identify this new note through listening activities. 

Grade 3/4 students have started the RECORDER!!! Lots of excitement around this and they can't wait to start Recorder Karate. 

Grade 5 students have been busy preparing their song for the Remembrance Day ceremony and are also preparing to begin the Recorder again this year. 

Halloween activities for all classes will take place over the next few weeks! Check back for updates and pictures :)

September in the Music Room

Here's a quick look at what has been happening in the music room so far this year:

Kindergarten: Students have had the opportunity to dance, play instruments and explore the different qualities of music such as Fast/Slow and Loud/Quiet

Grade 1: Students have explored ascending and descending sounds on the xylophones.

Grade 2: Students have practiced how to accompany a simple tune using a bourdon on the xylophones.

Grades 3, 4 & 5: Students have enjoyed playing the instruments, singing songs and are excited to begin a new recorder program.

A look back...

It's hard to believe that another school year has come and gone. Here is a quick look back on a few highlights from the Music room for the 2013-2014 school year. 

5 students participated in the Divisional Musical Theatre production of "Little Mermaid". 
2 students participated in the Divisional Children's Choir. 
All students performed very well in our Winter Concert "Around the World". 
Kindergarten students explored the different qualities of music through listening and movement activities. 
Grade 1-5 students all attend the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. 
Choir students performed beautifully at different events throughout the entire year. 
Volunteer students from Grade 4/5 had a blast performing in our Spring Musical "Pirates". The show was a huge success. 

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful summer break and also a special farewell to the Grade 5 students, as they move on to middle school.

Doing ÉRB proud!

Throughout the month of May, students had the opportunity to audition for two special divisional groups.

First up "The Divisional Children's Choir" that is composed of Grade 5 students from across the division. Next year, I am proud to say that 8 of our Grade 5 students will be participating in this choir. Congratulations to Sameer, Emily, Paityn, Paige, Mackenzie, Robyn, Tyah and Maia.

Students were also given the chance to audition for a part in "The Divisional Musical Theatre" production of Peter Pan. This group is composed of Grade 4-8 students from across the entire division. 

I am thrilled to announce that École Robert Browning will be represented by 5 current students along with a few former students as well. Congratulations to Mackenzie, Chloe, Katie, Bailee and Kiana, along with Abby, Kieran and Hanna. Good luck!!!

EMS Week Kick Off Event

EMS week is a celebration dedicated to all the men and women who deliver life saving skills to everyone in need. We at École Robert Browning, were very fortunate to host to "Official Kick Off" to this special week. Students and staff had the opportunity to tour an ambulance, fire truck, MIRV and police car. We practiced our bike & road safety with PACERS, we created our own first aid kits and we learned when to call 9-1-1 and how our calls are handled. A big thank you to all EMS staff for coming out today.
